چکیده

Although tick-borne pathogens are of tremendous historical importance to both veterinary and human medicine, recent events emphasize an expanding role for newly discovered, as well as previously recognized tick-transmitted organisms, as a cause of animal and human suffering. One of the most important new developments related to anaplasmosis and ehrlichiosis is the realization that a given mammalian species can be infected simultaneously or sequentially by several Ehrlichia species. 1 As an example, both dogs and people can be infected with Ehrlichia chaffeensis, Ehrlichia canis, Ehrlichia ewingii and Anaplasma phagocytophilium (see reclassification below).

Clinical and Serological Evidence of Canine Anaplasmosis and Ehrlichiosis in Urban and Rural Panama

Canine tick borne disease, such as anaplasmosis and ehrlichiosis are common diseases in veterinary practices. Most patients are diagnosed using clinical findings, history of tick bites and hematological findings; however, proper approach to diagnostic is not always feasible. Blood from 104 animal patients from urban and rural areas were analyzed finding 53.84% (n=56) having parameters compatibl...

An Assessment of Whole Blood and Fractions by Nested PCR as a DNA Source for Diagnosing Canine Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis

Ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis are tick-borne diseases. Ehrlichia canis and Anaplasma platys infect mainly white cells and platelets, respectively. The main DNA source for PCR is peripheral blood, but the potential of blood cell fractions has not been extensively investigated. This study aims at assessment of whole blood (WB) and blood fractions potential in nested PCR (nPCR) to diagnose canine ...

Occurrence of Ehrlichia canis and Anaplasma platys in household dogs from northern Parana.

Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis caused primarily by Ehrlichia canis and canine thrombocytic anaplasmosis induced by Anaplasma platys are important emerging zoonotic tick-borne diseases of dogs. There is evidence that these pathogens can also affect humans. This study evaluated the presence of E. canis and A. platys in blood samples collected from 256 domiciled dogs in the municipality of Jataizin...
